History




1965:  The New South Wales Institute of Technology (NSWIT) inaugurated early

1970's:  Evidence of a christian group called 'Christian Union' in existence at NSWIT

1977:  This group, now called 'Christian Fellowship' decided between a number of organisations and affiliated with the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES)

1977:  AFES ask St. Barnabas Broadway to supply 'Christian Fellowship' with some pastoral assistance: Rosie (Waugh) Pidgeon takes part-time interest and involvment in the group. (She was also helping the EU at Sydney Uni). Barneys church have supplied staffworker assistance ever since.

1988:  NSWIT became UTS

1988:  A group of students in Christian Fellowship decide to form a seperate group called 'Students for Christ'

1989:  Christian Fellowship adopts a consitution still the governing document of Credo (though with some minor amendments to it along the way).

1991:  Ross Rowe accepted as the first AFES appointed staffworker.  He worked on campus for two years about 1 day per week.

Late 1995:  Name change from 'Christian Fellowship' to Credo

1997:  AFES change it's national conference to the current NTE format. Credo's first NTE mission was to Liverpool Anglican Church.  There were 14 students in attendance.

1998:  Paul Winch appointed first full-time, senior AFES staffworker.

1998:  Credo group size reaches three figures.

2000:  First Easter time Convention (ETC) held at Grace Lodge, Yarramundi. There were 38 in attendance.

2001:   Credo moved it's club registration over from the Students Association to the UTS Union

2003:  Credo started OCS - renamed Fellowship of Overseas Christian Uni Students (FOCUS) in 2005 - to minister to international students at UTS.
