Lead Up
In the lead up the talks as well as flyering around campus and putting up posters as in previous years we also had a fish and bowl skit, cooked pancakes on the concourse and did some cold contacting.

The fish and bowl skit took place in and around the concourse at UTS.  It involved three fish yelling “I’M FREE, FREEEEE” and running away from a person carrying a bowl who pleaded with them shouting “COME BACK FISHEY.”

On Tuesday morning before the first talk we cooked pancakes on the concourse for anyone who would like one.  This went really well!  A great answer to prayer was that we had the perfect amount of pancake mix which lasted right up till we had to pack up.

Cold contacting was an attempt to personally invite to the talks as many UTS people as possible.  In groups of two or three we wandered around an assigned area and casually approached people asking them if they thought the fish on the postcard was free.  Responses were mixed but some great conversations ensued.  A surprising thing was the amount of different opinions on the freedom of the fish.  One conversation lasted an hour and many people expressed interest in coming along to the talks.   I found this sort of outreach is really intimidating, but in the end rewarding as it was so effective in reaching people.
